Family cycling holidays around Lake Windermere this Summer

Despite the school summer holidays fast approaching, it is still not too late to book a holiday in and around Lake Windermere. By mid July the whole family will be have surely got Tour de France fever if they’ve not already got it. Cycling is an excellent way to get around the Lake District as well as see it. When the roads are brimming full of visitors going from A to B, get the bike out and cycle on one of the bridleways or cycle paths.

Also, cycling around Lake Windermere and South Cumbria has been given an extra boost with the introduction of the Bike Boat by Windermere Lake Cruises. The new Bike Boat service is a great way for those staying in and around Windermere to get from one side of the lake to the other cutting out the busy A591 road. The service departs from Brockhole over to Bark Barn and the floating jetty on the western shore of Lake Windermere.

With a large car park for storing, loading and unloading bikes safely and access to miles of cycle routes from the front door is the Newby Bridge Hotel at the southern end of Lake Windermere. From the hotel head along the western shore of the lake and take the bike boat over to Brockhole to experience the eastern side. The scenery and experiences on so many of the cycling routes around Windermere and especially the added excitement of incorporating a boat trip at the same time, is bound to progress the abilities and enjoyment of cycling for kids.
