Country Fest Show
WCAS Country Show

County and agricultural show season kicks off this weekend the 1st and 2nd June in Cumbria with Country Fest organised by the Westmorland County Agricultural Society Westmorlandshow.co.uk/page/country_fest.html. This will be fifth year of Country Fest held on the show field at Crooklands and is topped to be bigger and better than ever before.

New for 2013 is a display from the Lakeland Historic Car Club a vintage marquee and open sheepdog trials. For foodies there will be a plethora of local food producers and suppliers bringing together the best the county has to offer along with a food theatre holding demonstrations throughout the day.

The following week, Saturday 8th June, is the giant Cumberland Show at the Carlisle Racecourse Cumberlandshow.co.uk. At just £10 entrance fee for the whole day and free for children under 16 accompanied by a paying adult, I’d say it’s very good value for a full, family day out. This vast event showcases all the very best in countryside activities, agriculture, farming and food. There are horse, cattle, sheep and goat competitions as well as crop, industrial, rabbit, dog, terrier and poultry! As with Country Fest there’s food stall, demonstrations and plenty of activities for kids to join in on.

There are plenty of places to stay should you be visiting from out of the county or simply wishing to make a weekend out of attending any of the upcoming shows. With all the great Cumbrian food producers, it is almost inevitable you’re going to purchase quite substantial amounts! The temptation is too great when such diverse, different and quality food and produce is available. This is why staying a in a self catering cottage or property is a great idea, having both space and a fridge to store foodie goodies in.

Throughout Cumbria and the Lake District the Lakeland Cottage Company have a choice of excellent Lake District holiday cottages ranging from small retreats to properties suitable for larger parties with many making ideal bases for either of these two shows.
